Tendinopathies

Tendinopathy refers to a condition involving the degeneration or inflammation of a tendon, often due to overuse, injury, or repetitive strain. Common types include:

  1. Achilles Tendinopathy: Affects the Achilles tendon, often seen in runners and athletes.
  2. Patellar Tendinopathy: Also known as “jumper’s knee,” it affects the tendon connecting the kneecap to the shinbone.
  3. Tennis Elbow (Lateral Epicondylitis): Involves the tendons on the outside of the elbow, often due to repetitive arm motions.
  4. Golfer’s Elbow (Medial Epicondylitis): Affects the tendons on the inside of the elbow, often from repetitive wrist flexion or gripping.
Symptoms:
  • Pain and tenderness around the affected tendon
  • Stiffness, especially in the morning or after periods of inactivity
  • Swelling or thickening of the tendon
Treatment:
  • Rest
  • Ice
  • Physical Therapy
  • Medications:
  • Injections
  • Surgery: Considered in severe or chronic cases that don’t respond to other treatments.

If you suspect a tendinopathy, it’s important to consult a healthcare professional for proper diagnosis and management.
